Boxing Fight in Las Vegas
Two young boxing superstars will face off for ultimate bragging rights when Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia square off in a 136-pound catchweight bout on April 22 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
A 2012 Golden Gloves gold medalist, Davis is undefeated at 28-0 (26 KOs). Unanimously lauded as one of the most devastating punchers in the sport, “Tank” has captured an assortment of title belts in three weight classes.
Promoted for several years by Floyd Mayweather, Davis has recently been praised by legends such as Mike Tyson and Canelo Alvarez. The 28-year-old is grateful for the recognition and wants all eyes to remain on him, especially after this fight.
“I gotta live up to it,” Davis told ES News via Boxing Social. “I feel as though they see I’m good; you know I’m great. I just gotta prove it. When I hear stuff like that, [people] rooting for me, I feel as though I gotta work hard to live up to their expectations.”
Garcia, 24, has 23 wins with 19 of them coming by knockout. “KingRy” last fought in July 2022 and ultimately decided to go against his promoter’s wishes and forego a warmup bout.
Though he has had more time off than Davis, Team Garcia remains extremely confident of victory. Golden Boy Promotions’ Oscar De La Hoya has watched Garcia develop into what he is today and he believes that his charge has superior skills.
“I believe in his talent, I believe in his skills, I believe in his arsenal,” De La Hoya told ES News via Boxing News 24. “He has more tools to beat Tank Davis inside the ring. His long jab, his wide stance, his punches in bunches, his speed, and his power. I’ll tell you one thing: when Ryan gets going, there’s nobody that can beat him up here [brains]. He’s that strong.”
